Pirtle Construction Announces First Silver LEED Certified Building in Broward County
10/16/07
Davie, Fla., October 16, 2007 – Pirtle Construction Company today announced the South Regional/BCC Library has achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. This is the first facility in Broward County to achieve this prestigious level of certification. Pirtle completed the library in September 2006 for Broward County on the south campus of Broward Community College and the project was submitted for certification. The U.S. Green Building Coalition selected this project for Silver certification based on Green design and construction techniques including improved daylighting, building commissioning, use of low-emitting materials, measurement and verification of energy efficiency in building systems, high use of local and regional materials, and a 96 percent rate of construction waste recycling. LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building project meets the highest performance standards and is recognized nationwide as proof that a building is environmentally responsible, profitable, and a healthy place to live and work.
“Pirtle is pleased to have built the first green building in Broward County. We feel it is a testament to our commitment and longevity here in South Florida and we are proud to be leading the South Florida movement in green construction” said Paul Carty, LEED AP, Vice-President of Pirtle Construction.
